Description

Pearson is hiring an Apprentice, Software Engineer in Bangalore as part of its apprenticeship program. The role is designed for graduates and early-career developers who want hands-on experience building modern web applications.

The apprentice will work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to real product features across both frontend and backend development. The role provides exposure to React.js, Node.js, Java or .NET, TypeScript/JavaScript, REST APIs, databases, cloud technologies, Docker, Git, CI/CD, Agile development, and AI-assisted development tools.

The apprenticeship combines structured training, mentorship, and on-the-job learning in a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining web applications using React.js on the frontend and Node.js, Java, or .NET on the backend.
Write clean, readable, and maintainable code using TypeScript and/or JavaScript.
Collaborate with senior engineers to implement new features and improve existing applications.
Integrate and consume REST APIs across frontend and backend layers.
Participate in code reviews, daily standups, and sprint planning as part of an Agile team.
Debug and troubleshoot issues across the full technology stack under guidance.
Write basic unit tests and contribute to improving code quality.
Learn and follow team engineering standards, coding practices, and documentation practices.
Work with experienced engineers and gain hands-on exposure to real product development.
Contribute to frontend and backend engineering activities as part of the apprenticeship program.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree, either pursuing or completed, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Basic hands-on experience or strong academic exposure to React.js and modern JavaScript/TypeScript development.
Foundational understanding of frontend concepts including components, state management, and responsive UI.
Familiarity with at least one backend technology: Node.js, Java, or .NET.
Understanding of REST APIs and frontend-backend communication.
Basic knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design principles.
Good problem-solving and communication skills.
Eagerness to learn, take ownership, and work collaboratively.
Experience or exposure to relational or NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB is preferred.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is preferred.
Basic understanding of microservices architecture or containerization with Docker is preferred.
Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices is preferred.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor is preferred.
0–2 years of experience.
Age requirement: 18–35 years.
Candidate must not have ever drawn EPF.
